Training Support for Rescues

We at Ruff Life are strong advocates for dog rescue. Ruff Life owner and Head Trainer, Tessa Sternbach, volunteers her time and expertise to help adoptable dogs get closer to finding their perfect furever homes.

Through regular fostering, Tessa is able to learn about each shelter dog, provide them with care and structure, and teach obedience skills that set them up for success with a new family.

Separately, our New Leash on Life initiative is dedicated to giving dogs and individuals a second chance through training and rehabilitation. Learn more about this deeply meaningful program below.

New Leash on Life

This collaboration between Ruff Life, Charlie's Angel's Animal Rescue, and the Western Correctional Facility for Women has been a successful and rewarding experience for all involved for nearly three years.

The program pairs rescue dogs with inmates to live and train together for eight weeks. The second half of the program takes the group out into the community to develop real-world skills. Upon graduating, the participating pups are ready to show off their new obedience skills with a furever family!

The dogs are adoptable through Charlie's Angels, which means you can bring a furry love bug into your home who's been professionally trained by one of the best in the business.

We thank Black Mountain News for covering this special initiative.

“It’s fun to grow with the ladies, grow with the dogs and see them evolve,” Sternbach said. “Many of the women I’ve worked with start off very quiet and unsure of themselves and then, several weeks in, as the dogs are progressing and they’re building that relationship with them, they really blossom. … The relationships they build with the dogs are beautiful.”
